DREX Laboratory Reporting & Micro Sample Analysis

This software was designed and customized for the Costa Rica health and laboratory networks. It allows laboratories to submit testing results to a centralized system to better facilitate communications between laboratories, doctors, and patients. Additionally, the system was expanded to allow for remote microanalysis of samples in real time for more accurate asynchronous reporting.

Problem Or Issue To Solve

Historically, laboratory results were physically mailed or emailed between laboratories, doctors, and patients. This translated to extend wait times for results, lost results, and sharing via non HIPAA compliant methods. Doctors, laboratories, and patients needed a more secure and efficient way to share test results.

Solution

A centralized reporting system was created that provided direct access for doctors, laboratories, hospitals, and patients. Each having their own logins and preferred communication preferences. This allowed for enhanced data security, data integrity, and faster results. Additionally, patients could still request to receive results in their preferred communication method depending on the level of desired privacy and individual security. A final enhancement included the creation of a proprietary system that allowed doctors to asynchronously perform microanalysis on samples in remote locations to ensure more accurate results.

Results

The DREX laboratory reporting system is currently deployed to a wide network of individual laboratories, laboratory networks, and hospital laboratories. It is used by major laboratory networks such as: CIMA Hospital Labs, Clinica Biblica Hospital Labs, Dimopat Labs, Cenahce Labs, Lamopat Labs, and Labin Labs. As this system was created and deployed shortly before the pandemic, when COVID reporting became essential, this system was branched into a new system created and used to perform COVID reporting to various Costa Rica government agencies and the WHO.
